The Opportunity: International Business Networking Via the Internet and Video Conferencing - A "Virtual Trade Mission" between Germany and the U.S. was hosted over the Internet from June 17 to July 5, 2002. It provided companies with an efficient and cost-effective way to network online and to collaborate on securing digital and multimedia solutions (including software solutions for e-business, e-government, e-learning, and wireless).

Organizers: Based in the U.S. and in Germany - Organizers based in the U.S. included the Washington DC Technology Council, TradeBuilders, the Greater Washington Board of Trade's International Gateway, EndeavorConnect, the Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA), German American Chamber of Commerce in New York, Greater Baltimore Technology Council, Foley & Lardner, and Sonic Telecom. Organizers based in Germany included gotoBavaria, BAO BERLIN International GmbH, Berlin Chamber of Industry and Commerce, Berlin-Brandenburg e.V., Hamburg newmedia, NRW Medien GmbH, and the Saxony Economic Development Corporation.

Virtual Trade Mission: What Is Involved? - After online applications were evaluated and accepted, qualified company representatives used their access codes to engage in business discussions over the Internet. Participants posted information and questions for other participants for 3 weeks. Business facilitators assisted participants with building business relationships online based on complementary interests. The online environment provided participants with access to discussion areas for business networking, a member directory complete with website links, a library of valuable resources, and access to relevant guest experts. A video conference was also hosted between Washington, DC, and Munich on June 28.
